My name is Hayley Ramsey, mummy to two beautiful girls, animal lover and literature nut. I'm 29 years old, and when I'm not doing mum things, I generally have a book in one hand and a coffee in the other.
I live near Sheffield, South Yorkshire in the UK, and I went to University at York St John where I gained a BA (Hons) English Literature in 2013. We studied various topics, including gothic and contempary literature. I completed my dissertation, which was based on the changing moral and educational factors of fairytales between the 18th and 20th century. I was also the Co-Founder/Assistant Editor of the YSJ Press University newspaper – it was lots of fun!
For the past seven years I worked at the National Control Centre for the RSPCA, where I dealt with distressing cases of neglect and cruelty against animals. This job involved speaking to the emergency services and helping the inspectorate deal with their workload. It was extremely rewarding, and gave me a great sense of achievement knowing that I had a hand in helping many defenceless animals.
However, over the past few years I have decided a change is in order. I'm closing in on the big 3-0, and I wanted a career that gives me a different challenge. I completed a qualification in proofreading in 2015, and have been doing this alongside my part-time job ever since. I have always had a very keen eye, and I can spot a mistake a mile away! If a flyer comes through my door with a mistake, I can't look past it. If I'm reading a book and I see an error, it bugs me for the remainder of the chapter (at least). My skills are always improving, and I regularly complete training to keep me up-to-date.
The main reason I've decided to start my own business, is my children. I wanted the freedom of enjoying Christmas with my family, of spending Sundays watching films and eating chocolate ice cream, and most of all being there to pick them up from school and hear all about their day. One other reason I wanted to start my own business was for my own mental health. It is often something that is taboo, but I wholeheartedly believe that speaking out about your anxieties and worries, and dealing with them in a proactive way helps to break down the barriers we build around ourselves.
If you have a business that you have put your heart and soul into, you want to stand out to your intended market and shine brightly. I can help you to make the best impression, by making sure your work is error-free and memorable. Please feel free to email me with any queries you have, whether it's regarding your own novel or blog, or you want your essay going through with a trained eye, I'm only a click away.
