1. You’ve been writing for hours & hours and your brain hurts.
You’re one of two kinds of people. You love to write and do it out of pure joy or you do it out of necessity and struggle to find the motivation to go over and over it again. As I’ve said before, editing your own work has its own problems. You become blind to the errors; your brain just wants a break from the screen and you just want to sit in peace with a cuppa and a biscuit.
You go and enjoy your cuppa while I get on with the nitty-gritty parts that most people don’t enjoy. When you hire a copyeditor, your work comes back to you polished and perfect – without the stress!
2. You have so many more important things to focus on.
You’ve written the copy – and let’s be honest, you’re not totally happy with it, but you’ve just got so many other things on your to-do list that it’ll just have to do. Wrong. It can always be improved, and that’s where I come in.
As a business owner, I completely understand that juggling act. You want your website/blog/email campaign to attract your ideal client but you need to have SOMETHING ready for the client to purchase, so that needs your attention first.
While you’re organising the rest of your business – whether it’s taking product photos, managing social media or you’re in meetings – I can be working away quietly in the background. Your copy will be dropped into your inbox as soon as I’m done, and you’ll have achieved so much more by outsourcing the task that you dislike the most.
3. You get lots of clicks on your website, but not many sales.
You just don’t understand, is it the style? Is something wrong? Who knows, but it’s driving you crazy!
“Charles Duncombe, who runs a range of internet-based businesses, says an analysis of website figures shows a single spelling mistake can cut online sales by 50 percent. He says that sales figures suggest misspellings put off consumers who may have concerns over the credibility of a website.”
Have you ever looked at a website, seen an error, and immediately hit the big X in the corner? I bet you have. Errors and inconsistencies dramatically reduce sales – it’s a fact. It really does reduce your credibility as a business, and people will look for what they need elsewhere.
Have you ever had a trained professional look over your content? That’s what a copyeditor does. They read through everything, making sure it’s consistent, clear and error-free.
4. You value other professionals, especially those who ‘get’ you.
You’re a professional person and you love to build up others in a similar position to you – even those who are where you used to be before things took off.
Equally, if you have a leak in your home or business, you call a plumber. Why? Because they’re trained to fix the problem. You wouldn’t bring in Deirdre from down the road, you want someone who understands the in’s and out’s of your plumbing! Hiring a professional copyeditor is exactly like that. You’re hiring someone who knows what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. We don’t just wing it.
If you’re a professional in your field, it’s worth hiring someone who’s great in their own field. I hate tooting my own horn, but that’s me. Check out my testimonials if you want further proof 😊
5. You want customers to trust you & your brand
You’ve slaved away for hours; worked many an evening; stayed home on the weekend to get your business to where you want it to be. You want your customers to trust you, and believe that your company can deliver exactly what they need.
So, if your website/blog/product descriptions aren’t up to scratch, customers aren’t going to trust you and your business will suffer for it.
Hiring a copyeditor will help establish the trust needed for customers to follow through with those sales. There’ll be a much lower ‘abandoned basket’ rate, as your copy will create a trusting relationship from the get-go.
